Into the Ice – Lars Ostenfeld
For his award-winning documentary Into the Ice, Danish filmmaker and photographer Lars Ostenfeld travelled deep into the heart of Greenland’s ice sheet – one of the most remote and fragile regions on Earth. Accompanying glaciologists Alun Hubbard, Jason Box, and Masashi Niwano, Lars documented their expedition through the frozen landscape and into vast moulins — vertical shafts formed when surface rivers carve deep holes through the glacier. The result is not only a breathtaking journey into an unknown world, but also a profound reflection on science, courage, and our changing climate. The Codex Wallbook entitled Into the Ice brings photographs from Lars’ expedition to life in large-format, tactile prints, capturing the textures and light, the stillness and tension of these icy landscapes: the fine lines of frozen cracks, the surreal blue depths, and memorable moments in camp. The Wallbook tells Lars’ story through image pairs that invite the viewer to stand with him at the edge of the abyss. After its first presentation in Cologne, the project is now available as a Codex Wallbook, celebrating the dialogue between image, experience, and story.
